QUETTA: At least eight workers of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat (ASWJ) were injured when armed motorcyclists opened fire at their rally in Quetta on Saturday, Express News reported.

According to ASWJ officials, a rally of party workers and supporters was passing through Liaquat Bazar when they were fired at.

The injured were shifted to Civil Hospital where ASWJ workers staged a sit-in along with ASWJ’s Balochistan President Maulana Ramzan Mengal.

Speaking to the media, Mengal said that if the suspects involved in the attack are not arrested, then the party will hold a wheel-jam strike across the country on Sunday.

The party had also called for a shutter-down strike in Quetta on Saturday against the Frontier Corps (FC) for killing two of its members.

At least two ASWJ activists were killed and four security personnel were injured in a search operation in Nakhail area of Nowa Killi, Quetta on Friday. Four people were also arrested in the operation.

On Friday, the police also detained ASWJ senior leader Malik Ishaq – who is also a leader of banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) – after the militant outfit claimed responsibility of the Quetta bombing. The bombing had left over 80 people dead.
