RAWALPINDI: Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Bajwa said on Friday that security forces will continue with their relief work in the earthquake affected areas, despite facing security hazards and unabated attacks from militants.

Maj Gen Bajwa claimed that militants had fired twice on troops in the Dandar area of Kech District on Friday and at least five times the day before in Mashkay, an area worst hit by the September 24 earthquake.

He added that the attacks had claimed the lives of six security personnel while six others sustained injuries.

Condemning the attacks, DG ISPR said that the security forces will continue to work to provide relief to the people.

Army pours troops into affected zones

The army, which has been accused by Baloch separatists running a sinister infiltration campaign under the garb relief work, said that over 2,000 troops, 14 helicopters and two cargo aircrafts of the air force were participating in relief work in Awaran. 811 tonnes of relief goods were also being transported from Karachi and Quetta through Bela and Khuzdar.

The troops have distributed 962 tonnes of ration among the affected in 134 helicopter sorties. The helicopters also evacuated injured people from affected areas.

Meanwhile, 370 tonnes of relief goods including tents, blankets have reached the affected areas for distribution.

Talking about the relief efforts, the DG ISPR said that at least 2,000 people had received medical attention.
