Security cover: 140 dogs being trained annually

ISLAMABAD: Up to 140 dogs are being trained annually at the Army Dog Centre and School (ADC&S) in Rawalpindi to provide assistance in security cover to military installations, VIPs and foreign dignitaries in the country.

During the last three years, 102 Security Working Dogs (SWDs) were provided to the Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), including Punjab Police, Pakistan Rangers and the Customs Department.

According to official sources, at present nine Canine Units were raised at Corps Headquarters for security purposes at Mangla, Gujranwala, Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Quetta, Karachi, Rawalpindi and Peshawar.

All units are holding 6 to 18 dogs.

Army Dog Centre and School (AD&S) is an organisation working to provide Security Working Dogs (SWDs) since 1952.

These dogs are used to provide assistance in security cover to military installations, VVIPs, VIPs and foreign dignitaries. They also undertake all technical sweeping/search duties with regards to installations, movement and incidents.
