Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Akmal’s ton inspires NBP to post 355 runs against Lions

KARACHI: NBP captain Kamran Akmal hammered an unbeaten 123, while Fawad Alam posted 95 off 172 balls to fuel an inspiring total of 355-4 in 90 overs against Lahore Lions on the opening day of the sixth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Gold edition at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Wednesday.

In another match, medium pacer Samiullah Niazi took six wickets to guide SNGPL to an impressive start against the Peshawar Panthers and restricted them to 120 in 42.4 overs. At the end of play SNGPL were at 90-4 after 33 overs.

At the National Stadium, hosts Karachi Dolphins posted a total of 291-6 against UBL with Muhammad Waqas scoring 87 on day one.

Islamabad Leopard’s Shehzad Ahmed Khan took five wickets to limit PQA on 170 in 40 overs, while the hosts were at 115-6 after 35.3 overs at the end of play.

In the match between ZTBL and Multan Tigers, Majid Ali’s four dismissals restricted ZTBL on 244 after 66.1 overs. Tigers were at 17-0 after two overs at the stumps.

The top ranked team of the gold edition, WAPDA, scored 287-8 in 83 overs with the aid of Iftikhar Ahmed’s 96, while Ayaz Tasawar was batting at 71 at the end of the play.

Silver edition

Ali Imran Pasha’s six-wicket haul for PIA restricted top ranked KRL on 107. PIA were batting at 114-4 after 33 overs at the end of play.

In another match, Fahad Masood and Sarmad Anwar of HBL took four wickets each to limit SSGC to 152. HBL were at 66-5 after 24.3 overs of play on day one.

Naseer Akram and Faheem Ashraf of Faisalabad Wolves took four wickets each to restrict Sialkot Stallions on 210. Wolves were at 71-3 after 24 overs at the end of play.

Karachi Zebras scored 257 in their first innings against Lahore Lions, while Lions were at 11-0 after four over of play on day one.

Hyderabad Hawks posted a low total of 196 against Quetta Bears, while Bears were at 26-3 at the day’s end. Meanwhile, Abbottabad Falcons scored 289-4 with Waqar Orakzai batting at 96.
